The Miracle of Action
There once was a very devout man who prayed to his Goddess of Light his entire life. He was such a devout man that he traveled to many places to pray to her, hoping to find her.
After many years of effort, he finally succeeded. While visiting a holy place very far from home, she appeared to him, shrouded in a radiant heavenly light. He immediately fell to his knees in reverence and awe.
The Goddess of Light asked the man, “Why have you put in so much effort hoping just to see me?”
The man replied, “I respectfully only wish to ask one question of you.”
To which the Goddess of Light replied,” Please ask your question of me.”
The man said, “When I am in trouble, I pray to you and ask for help. Do you pray when you feel troubled?”
The Goddess of Light replied “Yes, I pray.”
He then asked, “Who do you pray to?”
She replied, “I pray to the Goddess of Light.”
He questioned, “But you are the Goddess of Light? Why do you pray to yourself?”
She answered with a smile, “Because it is better to ask yourself for help than to ask someone else.”
Then she disappeared in a blaze of heavenly light.
Some of you are hoping for a miracle to happen in your life in order to make it better. Some of you are looking for a miracle in your life to make something stop hurting. Some of you are looking for a miracle to strengthen your faith.
Miracles can be miraculous examples of a higher power showing you they exist and have shown their power to you to strengthen your strength. But miracles require a step of faith first in order for them to manifest.
Whatever deity you pray to, or worship, requires you to show your faith in them by taking a “leap of faith” in order to be rewarded. Or at least the first step. Simply waiting for someone or something to rescue you requires no faith at all. And usually goes unrewarded.
I am reminded of the Indiana Jones movie where the hero faced the impossible task of crossing, but could not cross a vast canyon with no way to get to the other side. Of course, the treasure was on the other side.
After careful contemplation, he discovered what appeared to be an invisible (to the naked eye) bridge after taking a blind leap of faith by stepping out into the abyss, only to discover the bridge.
Life is like you are the hero faced with the problem of getting across the canyon. It won’t be until you take that blind leap of faith and step out that you will discover your own ability to solve the problem.
As the Goddess of Light said, “It is better to ask yourself for help than to ask someone else.”
